Stonebwoy Once Called Me Daddy — Shatta Wale Makes Fresh Revelation
Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has opened up about his past relationship with fellow dancehall musician Stonebwoy, claiming that the two were once very close before fame and public comparisons changed their relationship.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, Shatta Wale revealed that Stonebwoy was like a younger brother to him during the early stages of his music journey.
According to him, Stonebwoy used to visit him regularly and looked up to him as a senior colleague in the music industry.
“Stonebwoy is my boy. Stonebwoy used to be with me. He used to come to where my first room I rented,” Shatta Wale said.
He added that Stonebwoy once referred to him as “daddy” because of the respect and closeness they shared at the time.
“He used to call me daddy,” he stated.
The dancehall star claimed that their relationship began to change when Stonebwoy started gaining more attention and recognition in the Ghanaian music industry.
He explained that constant comparisons between the two artistes, with some people suggesting that Stonebwoy had become better than him, created tension between them.
“But when he started getting into the media and, you know, you have talent. ‘Oh no, you’re even better than Shatta Wale,’” he said.
Shatta Wale insisted that he does not have a personal problem with Stonebwoy but believes their personalities are different.
When asked whether he would welcome Stonebwoy into his studio, he said he had no issue with him but suggested that Stonebwoy would struggle to face him directly.
“I’m cool, but you know, he can’t watch me,” Shatta Wale said.
The outspoken musician also spoke about his confidence and personality, describing himself as someone who is not afraid to express his opinions.
“My spirit is too big for him. You know, when you meet people that their spirit is too big, and me, I’m too confident. I’m not the fake type,” he said.
Shatta Wale further claimed that he is someone who stands by his words and actions, unlike others who may fail to follow through on their statements.
He also recalled his reputation for being outspoken, saying that when he makes a promise or statement, he follows it up.
During the interview, Shatta Wale also shared his thoughts about the relationship between Stonebwoy and veteran dancehall musician Samini.
He claimed that he sometimes feels there is tension between the two artistes and suggested that Stonebwoy may not want Samini to overshadow him in the music industry.
“Sometimes when I see him, I feel bad because I feel like he hates Samini,” Shatta Wale said.
The relationship between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy has been the subject of public discussion for several years.
The two artistes, who are considered among Ghana’s biggest dancehall acts, have had disagreements dating back to their early days in the music industry.
Their rivalry gained major attention in 2019 during the Ghana Music Awards when a confrontation involving their camps caused confusion at the event.
Although several efforts have been made to promote peace between them, occasional comments and interviews continue to bring their differences back into the spotlight.
