Talent Is Not Enough: Bisa Kdei Warns Upcoming Artistes Against Living For Fame
Ghanaian highlife musician Bisa Kdei has urged emerging artistes to approach their music careers with a stronger business mindset, warning that talent alone cannot guarantee long-term success in the entertainment industry.
Speaking on Atinka FM on November 3, 2026, the musician stressed the importance of having good management, surrounding oneself with trustworthy advisers and making sound financial decisions to secure a stable future.
According to him, upcoming musicians must understand that succeeding in the music industry goes beyond having a good voice or musical talent. He explained that artistes need dependable individuals who can offer honest advice, identify their weaknesses and guide them towards professional growth.
He emphasised that musicians should surround themselves with business-minded people who are willing to correct them when they make mistakes rather than individuals who simply agree with everything they do.
“Talent is not enough. You need to be smart and surround yourself with the right people. You need business-minded individuals who can correct you when you go wrong,” he said.
Bisa Kdei further explained that artistes do not necessarily need a large management team to achieve success, noting that having one or two trustworthy individuals who genuinely believe in their vision is more valuable than working with a large group of people who cannot offer honest opinions.
“You don’t need a large team; one or two solid people who believe in you and are honest with you are better than a crowd of people who cannot tell you the truth,” he stated.
The musician also encouraged emerging artistes to establish additional sources of income while their music careers are thriving instead of depending solely on earnings from music and the fame that comes with being a public figure.
He cautioned that popularity and financial success in the entertainment industry are not permanent, urging musicians to prepare for the future by investing wisely, developing other businesses and practising financial discipline.
According to him, artistes must always consider their financial security beyond their years of fame and carefully plan how they spend the money they earn.
“Beyond the fame, what will you eat when the fame is gone? You need to be business-minded. That is why I always say you should have a side hustle. When you spend money, you must plan,” he said.
Bisa Kdei also warned upcoming musicians against extravagant spending motivated by the desire to impress others, urging them to concentrate on their personal ambitions and financial well-being rather than allowing public expectations to influence their decisions.
Drawing from his personal experiences and the challenges he faced before attaining success, the musician explained that he had learnt the importance of staying focused on his goals instead of spending unnecessarily to gain people’s approval.
He recalled experiencing difficult times, including hunger, before reaching his current position in the music industry, stressing that such experiences had taught him valuable lessons about life, perseverance and financial responsibility.
“I have experienced hunger, and I know what I went through to get to where I am today. So why should I spend my time worrying about impressing someone? I don’t care about doing things just to please people,” he added.
